Boiler Service Company Offers Fabrication

With a storied history in boiler service dating back to the company's founding in 1947, Holman Boiler Works Inc. is proud of its role as the largest boiler service company in the south central United States.

Boiler repair, replacement and rebuilds — from small to large field-erected boilers, any brand — is the Dallas-based company's primary business, but its fabrication capabilities add another notch to Holman's breadth of services.

"Many customers don't know that we can fabricate large components for boilers in our two shops," said John Campolo, Holman Boiler Works' president and CEO.

Components such as superheaters, heat exchangers and economizers are manufactured in house, either at Holman's 123,000-square-foot facility that serves as its headquarters or at its additional Dallas facility. The company also has satellite offices in Houston, San Antonio and Corpus Ch.risti, Texas.

Because the boiler service marketplace is highly fragmented with no national boiler service provider and because of Holman's comprehensive service offering, the company competes on a local basis for service calls and competes on a national and international basis for large projects.

And with a highly trained base of experienced boiler mechanics, fabricators, control technicians, code welders and engineering personnel, it is no surprise that Holman operated over a broad geographic area last year. Though much of the company's work is in Texas, its reach is much more expansive. Last year, Holman also worked in Louisiana, Idaho, Arizona, Florida, Indiana, Mexico, Venezuela and Puerto Rico.

"We can send crews anywhere," Campolo said.

In addition, the company offers emergency repair and service and boiler system rentals 24/7.

One notable large project required Holman to flex all its muscles, drawing from its deep pool of resources. A major refinery needed the tubes replaced on a large field-erected boiler, but the original manufacturer wouldn't give the refinery the drawings so that they could replace the tubes themselves.

Holman sent its engineers on site, where they performed all of the necessary measurements to develop production drawings for the tubes and other components. Holman then fabricated the replacement tubes in house and sent a field crew on site to remove the old tubes and install the new tubes.

"The alternatives would have been to buy a whole new unit, which is very costly, or to buy replacement parts from the OEM on a noncompetitive basis," Campolo said.

Holman also operates Boiler Tubes of Texas (BTT), which is the only tube fabrication shop in Dallas that provides a complete range of tubing and retubing services for boilers both on site or in its shop. This division is based out of Holman's headquarters and designs, redesigns and repairs boiler tube systems in a variety of sizes, grades and thickness combinations specific to the needs of the customer.

Holman's tube fabrication shop and extensive welding fabrication capabilities allow the company to build replacement fabrications used in large boilers throughout the Gulf Coast and elsewhere.

In addition to its complete boiler tube fabrication facility, Holman holds the following ASME code stamps: "A" — assembly of power boilers, "PP" — fabrication and assembly of pressure piping, "U" — manufacture of pressure vessels, "S" — manufacture and assembly of power boilers, "H" — heating boilers and the National Board Inspection Code "R" stamp for the repair and alteration of boilers.

Another important component to Holman's operations is the company's large boiler rental and sales business. Holman features a broad range of boilers that are both rented and sold to a variety of customers, ranging from local dry cleaners to large petrochemical processors. The company typically rents boilers to customers in emergency situations of boiler failure or power outage and as a temporary replacement when existing boilers are being repaired.

With a proud heritage of customer service, Holman Boiler Works continues to expand its service offerings and acquire longtime customers, acting as a true "boiler supermarket" to a long list of industries.
