Goes the ‘Extra Step’
Boiler tubes for all of industry will eventually experience corrosion, cracking or failure, and require repairs or replacements. Boiler tube failure is one of the largest sources of forced outages in all coal fired power generation plants. It is estimated that these plants lose approximately 6 percent of their power generation annually, due to boiler tube leaks and breaks.
Quick and effective response to tube breaks, outages and repair needs are just some of the reasons that, during its 35 years in the fabrication business, Boiler Tubes of Texas (BTT) has made a name for itself. BTT has produced tubes for almost every boiler make and model ever manufactured, and designs, redesigns and repairs boiler tube systems in a variety of grades, thicknesses and size combinations specific to each customer’s individual needs. BTT prides itself on its quick response to customer needs — from making one tube to outfitting two or three complete custom boilers. Boiler Tubes of Texas, a wholly owned division of Holman Boiler Works, is one of the only tube fabrication shops in Texas that provides a complete range of tubing and retubing services for boilers on site or in its shop. The quick response of BTT reaches far beyond the Texas area.
BTT’s biggest asset is its range in pipe production. It has the ability to fabricate tubes for just about any boiler imaginable. If you don’t have the blueprints or a pattern tube for your boiler, BTT will send out an engineer to make a set of blueprints. BTT can fabricate tubes for heat exchangers, super heaters and swage tubes, while also offering fin welding. “We can fabricate tubes for almost any boiler that’s ever been built,” said Sam Moskosky, Boiler Tubes of Texas general manager. “We’ve made tubes for every boiler make that’s out there.”
Quality is maintained through the tube fabricating process. BTT’s experienced personnel maintain a constant, uniform tube thickness using a mandrel, so clients can be sure that all tube bending is carried out with the utmost precision. Tubes are continuously checked for angle of bend, quality and dimensional stability.
Besides fabrication, BTT carries an extensive inventory of stock straight tubes. If a tube isn’t in inventory, BTT can get it or make it. BTT’s experience combined with this inventory of tooling allows them to furnish all of a client’s needs, from tubes ready for assembly to a complete unit ready to install.
BTT is also expanding its working capacity. BTT has recently added a new tube straightener to its fleet, and plans to upgrade its fin welders to double pass capabilities. These will be added to BTT’s fleet of Pines benders, fin welders, swaging machines, orbital welders, hot-bend equipment and tube straighteners. Consistent, quality work is the biggest principle of BTT. Whether the job is large or small, it will adhere to BTT’s stringent quality control program. Moskosky and his crew have built up quite the reputation for this consistent quality and the quick response with which they deliver it.
According to Steve Dutra, project manager for Bay City Boilers, Moskosky and Boiler Tubes of Texas go the extra step in customer service.
"They make it easy in distinguishing which tube goes where. They’re all marked great when you get them, and you don’t have to spend any extra time cleaning them before installation. And besides that, their delivery times have been far superior than anybody else out there,” said Dutra.
In terms of the products they supply, Dutra commented, “Over the years I have found that Boiler Tubes of Texas has been far superior to others in pricing and in product. They do a really, really good job, and they’re good people to work with.”
